HRC Foundation Releases 2025 Equidad Chile Report on LGBTI+ Workplace Inclusion

SANTIAGO, CHILE — The Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), in partnership with Fundación Iguales and with support from Pride Connection Chile, today released the HRC Equidad CL 2025 report — Chile’s leading benchmarking tool for evaluating corporate policies and practices in support of LGBTI+ workplace inclusion.

Equidad CL 2025 reports participation from 141 local and multinational companies, collectively employing 395,702 people across Chile. Of these, 67 organizations — representing 47.5% of all participants — earned the prestigious “2025 Best Places to Work” certification. These top-performing companies employ 282,708 individuals, underscoring the real impact inclusive policies can have at scale.

"At the regional level, Chile stands out as one of the leading countries in implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies, along with Argentina, Mexico, and Brazil. However, a gap still remains between stated policies and the actual hiring of LGBTI+ individuals,” said Emilio Maldonado, Implementing Partner of HRC Equidad CL and founder of Pride Connection Chile. “This certification aims precisely to highlight the positive aspects of implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion actions that are consistent both with the organization’s external image and the real experience of those working within it.”

Compared to last year, participation remained nearly unchanged despite a shifting DEI landscape influenced by recent changes in U.S. federal administration policy. The report reflects strong regional and sectoral engagement, with 74% of participating companies categorized as large employers (200+ employees)21% as medium (26–199 employees), and 5% as small (25 or fewer employees).

“Corporations have long been aware that while talent is everywhere, opportunity isn’t,” said Rashawn “Shawnie” Hawkins, SHRM, HRC Senior Director of Workplace Equality. “This report has shown us that Chilean companies continue to support workplace parity and belonging for all employees.”

Key Findings from HRC Equidad CL 2025:

  • 96% of companies have a formal workplace inclusion policy; terms included in policies: “Sexual orientation” (95%), “gender identity” (88%), and “gender expression” (80%).
  • 73% have an LGBTI+ employee resource group (ERG) open to all employees; 91% of those have executive sponsorship.
  • 78% conduct internal trainings, focused on topics like gender equality, disability, and unconscious bias.
  • 84% made at least one public commitment to LGBTI+ inclusion in the past year; 60% made three, meeting certification standards.
  • 94% have formalized channels for reporting discrimination or bias.
  • 62% have gender transition protocols in place; 59% offer benefits inclusive of transgender employees; 34% have initiatives inclusive of non-binary employees.

The HRC Equidad CL index is modeled after the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) in the United States, which for more than two decades has set the global standard for LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
